Highway Transportation System
system made up of roadway users, vehicles, and roadways.
purpose of moving people and cargo from one place to another in a safe efficient manor.
Collisions
happens when a vehicle hits another object, whether the object is moving or not.

IPDE Process
I (identify): locate potential hazards within the driving scene
P (predict): judge where all the possible points of conflict may occur

added lane where it is safe to slow your vehicle without blocking the vehicles behind you
Merging Lane
the space in a travel lane of highway parallel to the acceleration lane where you join traffic

when a person stares at a crash scene
Rubbernecking
when a person continuously looks all around a crash scene

organized method for controlling six zones of space surrounding your vehicle
Different types of distractions
Cognitive Distractions: when your mind is lost in thought or day dream (talking on the phone)
Visual Distraction: anything that causes you to take your eyes off the roadway
Auditory Distractions: any distraction caused by sounds (crying child or sirens)
Bio-mechanical Distractions: any mechanical act not specifically related to driving (pushing button or picking up drink)
Signs
Red: stop, yield, or prohibited
Orange: construction or detour
Yellow: warning
Black: regulatory
Blue: motorist services
Green: guide
Graduated Driver License Program
requires young drivers to progress through a series of three licensing stages: learner’s permit stage, intermediate license stage, and the full-privilege stage
Implied Consent Law
means anyone who operates a motor vehicle automatically consents to be tested for BAC and other drugs if stopped suspicion of drug use while driving
