final Flashcards
what is optical zoom?
refers to a camera’s ability to zoom in on a subject optically – like with a pair of binoculars.
what is digital zoom?
actually interpolation. This means that the software on the camera or Photoshop adds extra pixels to the image, creating an image of lower quality. This is similar to “resampling”, which can be found in the Image Size Dialog
box in Photoshop, although resample may refer to either adding OR removing pixels from the total pixel count
resampling
adding or removing pixels from the total pixel count. upsampling adds pixels and downsampling removes them
megapixel resolution
total pixel count of an image
interpolation
adding pixel information to an image, basically the same as upsampling
ppi resolution
pixels per inch, the number of pixels in each linear inch of a digital image
dpi resolution
dots per inch, the number of dots in each inch of a printed image
lpi resolution
lines per inch, same as dpi. dots are lined up in rows, aka lines
anti-aliasing
the adding to pixels to smooth the edge of a pixel based image
bit depth
the number of bits that control each pixel of an image in black and white, grayscale, and color images
bitmap
a mode in photoshop for sawing image images that only contain black and white pixels
what two words make up bit
comes from the two words binary and digit
what two words make up pixel
comes from the two words picture and element
rasterize
converting a vector image to a pixel image
paths
vector shapes created in vector based programs
