Describe the process of filtration.

A
  • Place filter paper folded in a cone shape into a funnel
  • Pour mixture in
  • Liquid part of mixture runs through paper, leaving behind a solid residue

What is the purpose of crystallisation?

A

To separate a soluble solid from a solution

Describe the process of crystallisation.

A
  • Pour solution into evaporating dish and heat the solution
  • Once you see crystals start to form, remove the dish from heat and leave the solution to cool
  • Filter the crystals out of the solution, and leave them in a warm place to dry
