what are the three basic frames
long shot - a shot from a distance displaying both the subject and the background
establishing shot - a shot that sets the scene, usually a long shot or a series of shots
close up - a shot to displays a close up of the subject
extreme close up - a close up but even closer
what are the three basic camera angles
low angle - shot from below, making subject appear more intimidating
high angle - shot from above, making subject appear weaker or trapped
dutch angle - shot tilted sideways, making subject distorted or sinister
what are the two types of sound
diegetic sound - sounds heard by or influencing the characters, e.g. speech, internal dialogue, sounds from objects
nondiegetic sound - sounds only meant for the audience, e.g. soundtracks
what are the seven types of lighting
low key - darker lighting, creates suspense or suspicion
high key - brighter lighting
bottom lighting - light source from the bottom, suggests danger, evil, moral ambiguity
side lighting - light source on the side, suggests danger, evil, moral ambiguity
front lighting - light source in front of the subject, light usually softer, suggests innocence
back lighting - light source behind the subject
neutral lighting - even lighting throughout the shot
what are the two types of focus
deep focus - both foreground and subject is in focus
shallow focus - only part of the frame is in focus, draws attention to the object in focus
what are the four basic types of camera movement
pan - the camera pans left or right
tilt - the camera tilts up or down
zoom - the camera zooms in or out
dolly - the camera follows the character
what does mise en scene mean
the arrangement of the set/frame, everything in a certain scene
what is a montage
a sequence of clips or images linked by a common idea, experience, or music
