Film processing Flashcards
Safe Lights inside dark rooms need to be:
o At least 4 feet from work area
o Proper bulb size - not to exceed 15 watts
o Covered by filter that only allows light of a spectral emission that is not within the sensitive
range of the film you’re using
Film should not be exposed to “safe light” more than _ min-
3 minutes
Manual processing:
developer 5 minutes @ 68 degrees; fixer for 10 minutes; drying 20-30 minutes
Developer Activator
Sodium carbonate- Softens gelatin protective cover on film
Developer Reducing Agents
Hydroquinone Reduces EXPOSED silver halide to black metallic silver
Developer Preservative
Sodium sulfite
Developer Restrainer
Potassium bromide
Acetic acid
Automatic Developer systems:
o Higher temperatures (Dev. 92-96° F)
o Constant agitation of chemicals
o Rapid through-put of film (90-180 seconds)
If you keep you processor running all due to not taking a lot of films , you machine requires what?
increased chem replenishment rates b/c the chems degrade more quickly when they are at higher temps just sitting there.
under-replenishment cause loss of what?
contrast (gray appearing) and film density
over-replenishment causes loss of what?
contrast (increased fog) and wastes chemicals
Dark room causes of apparently lowered contrast on a film due to:
- safe light fog
- room temp/humidity too high
- chem fog from processor too hot
- chem fog from chems too concentrated
- film past exp date
Complete chem change and tank cleaning and check replenisher rates and cycle time every…
two months
