Q

How has there been a lack of diversity in the film industry

A

Superhero films mostly feature non-white characters as sidekicks or secondary characters, exceptions being Wesley Snipes’ Blade in the 90s.
Black cinema traditionally consists of ‘arthouse’/‘prestige’ films or issues-based social realism.
Many black actors do not get nominated for or receive awards (#oscarssowhite).
Africa is typically portrayed as developing and underprivileged, focussing on famine, civil wars and terrorism.
