What is diegetic sound?
Diegetic sound is sound that seems to come from objects or people on screen - dialogue or footsteps, for example.
What is non diegetic sound?
Non-diegetic sound is where the source of the sound does not come from someone or something on screen and often takes the form of music or other sound effects that heighten the action.
What is the sound editors role?
The Sound Editor’s role is to create all the SFX and to put all the elements together; Music, dialogue and Sound effects
What is the sound producers job?
The Sound Producer is responsible for producing all the sound in the movie, from recording dialogue up close to filming scenes and recording the dialogue later. He reads the script and decides all the required sounds from speech to sfx.
What is the composers role?
The Composer creates all the music for the film. However, he is restricted by the timing of scenes, the amount of other dialogue and SFX in the scene and by the type of mood to be created.
What are leitmotifs?
A leitmotif is a recurring musical idea (a melody, chord sequence, rhythm or a combination of these) which is associated with a particular idea, character or place.
What is contrapuntal sound?
Sound which contradicts the onscreen action
What is parallel sound?
Sound that compliments the on screen action
What is Foley?
The creation of SFX
