How do you supply a calculation with data?
You use your own fields to supply a calculation with data.
- What type of fields can you do calculations on?
In addition to number, you can do calcs on time, date, timestamp, container, and text fields.
- When you create a CALCULATION field in the Manage Database window, the calc field works just like any other field, except you can’t
type data into them. Instead, they use a calculation to determine their own value.
- What else can calcs do?
They can pick apart text and put it back together in different ways
- What can calcs do with time fields?
they can do math on dates, times, and timestamps.
- What can calcs do that summary values can’t?
using calcs, you can use summary values (p. 286) without switching to preview mode.
- You can use a calc field just like any other field: you can
put it in a LAYOUT, use it in FIND MODE, and even use it in OTHER CALC FIELDS.
- You can use calcs with the Records–>Replace Field Contents command so that:
instead of replacing data in every record with the SAME value, the calc can produce a unique value for each record.
- Can you use calcs in scripts?
Scripts use calcs A LOT.
