What it does: Used for secure transmission of data between two systems.
Example: Secure FTP (SFTP)

Secure Shell
Protocol: TELNET Type: Remote connectivity What it does: Used to connect to remote systems. Not encrypted, so not recommended. Not enabled by default in Windows.

Type: Email
What it does: Used for outgoing email.

Type: Name resolution
What it does: Maps hostnames to IP addresses

What it does: Used for incoming email.
Email stays on the server even after a device has read it.

Protocol: HTTPS
Type: Encryption and web
What it does: Used for SSL. (Secure Socket Layer)
for encrypted web traffic.
TLS (Transport Layer Security) is SSL’s replacement

Type: File Transfer
What it does:

What it does: Offers file services in a Mac environment.
