nuclei are large, dense and stain darkly
sheath stains dark pink with giemsa

body has several curves and kinks
nuclei extended to tail tip
sheathed
nuclei not distinct - dense and stain darkly
sheath does not stain with giemsa
Mansonella ozzardi
unsheathed
body nuclei not distinct - anterior nuclei are positioned side by side
tail is pointed and tip does not contain nuclei
Mansonella perstans
small and thin
unsheathed
body nuclei are irregular
end of tail is rounded with large nucleus at the tip
Onchocerca volvulus - onchocerciasis
large and thick
found in skin
unsheathed
no nuclei at the end of the pointed tail
anterior nuclei positioned side by side
globular head

unsheathed and found in skin
nuclei extend to tip which is usually hooked
