Sharp wit, irony, sarcasm intended to expose social or political weakness; to educate through humour

Hyperbole
Over-exaggeration, not to be taken seriously

Euphemism
Approaches uncomfortable topic in a sensitive manner

Innuendo
A disapproving remark which hints at something, without stating it directly.
- Q: How did you like my production?
- A: The sets were beutiful
Puns
Clever play on words, similar in sound but have different meaning
- Q: Why did the tennis player have insomnia?
- A: There was a raquet (racket) in the room
Synechdoche
A part used for a whole or a whole used for a part
- My heart grived when the puppy died
- Australia won the cricket
Metonymy
Something associated with the object represents the object
- The hotel had an excellent table (the food was very good)
Malapropism
The unintentional use of incorrect, similar sounding words.
- I ensure you that this is correct (assure)
