Alliteration

Allusion
An expression designed to bring something to mind without mentioning it explicitly
Using something like a famous reference to something mentioning it explicitly

Assonance
The repetition of vowel sounds across a line of text or poetry
The long O sound in go slow on the road
Hyperbole
An unrealistic exaggeration used for emphasis or humour.
It seemed as though their bones would burst through their skin.
Onomatopoeia
Words that imitate the sound of an object or action they refer to.
My teeth chattered as I made my way through the snow
Personification
Giving human qualities or actions to non-human things
The wind whispered through the trees
Simile
A comparison of two unrelated things using like or as
As brave as a lion
Metaphor
A comparison between two unrelated things to show they are similar
My mom has a heart of gold
