Alliteration
The repetition of consonant at the beginning of words
Allusion
A figure of speech that makes reference to a place person or thing that is well known
Hyperbole
An over exaggeration for effect
Foreshadowing
The author drops subtle about future events before they happen
Imagery
The use of descriptive picture making words to create a mental picture ( appeals to the 5 senses)
Symbol
When an idea has a deeper meaning or value
Simile
A comparison using like as or than
Metaphor
A comparison not using like as or than
Personification
Attributes of a living thing to a non living thing
Ex: the window is whistling
Onomatopoeia
A word that sounds the like sound it makes
Ex: crash bang
Tone
An attitude of a writer towards a subject or an audience
First person
Uses the word I can only experience the narrators side of the story
Second person
From the perspective of you only used in instructions usually
Limited third person
Narrator is not a person in the story. Limited to one character ( he she it)
Third person multiple
Can follow more then one person in the story narrator is not a character ( he she it)
