Personification
Giving human characteristics to non-living things.
Hyperbole
Exaggeration to create emphasis or or effect.
Alliteration
Repitition of initial constant sounds in a series of words. (Sally, sold sea shells)
Onomatopoeia
Words that imatate natural sounds (Bang!, Boom!, Hiss).
Oxymoron
A combonation of contradictory terms/words (Jumbo shrimp).
symbolism
The use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities.
Allusion
A reference to a well known person, place, event or work.
Assonance
The repitition of vowel sounds in nearby words. Ex. The Monster SPOKE in a LOW MELLOW TONE.
Irony
A contrast between expectation and reality. strange or funny because something (such as a situation) is different from what you expected.
