the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning. Something that is ironic
(The fire station is on fire)
Irony
A compares two things by saying that one of them is the other. Unlike similes, it doesn’t use the word like or as
(My mom is a raging bull, She is a walking dictionary)
Metaphor
Is when a word describes a sound and actually mimics the sound of the object or action it refers to when it is spoken. A sound word.
(Spat, Boom, Bam, Snap, Crackle, and Pop)
Onomatopoeia
An is a term for a figure of speech. It is made up of two or more words that seem to be opposite to each other, or actually are opposite
(pretty ugly, icy hot)
Oxymoron
Giving non-human things human traits
flowers singing, the sun walking, an animal talking
Personification
A statement that makes something seem smaller or less important or serious than it really is.
oh it’s just a twisted ankle even though it’s broken)
