Fight Or Flight Response Flashcards
What role does the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) play in the stress response?
The ANS plays a major role in producing the fight or flight response.
What activates the sympathetic branch of the ANS?
A stressor is identified by the hypothalamus and activates the pituitary gland.
What hormone is released during the stress response?
Adrenaline is released by the adrenal medulla into the bloodstream.
What is the ‘Fight or Flight’ response?
It prepares the body for sudden physical action, producing physiological reactions such as increased heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration, and reduced saliva production and digestion.
What does the parasympathetic branch do after a stressor is removed?
The parasympathetic branch returns the body back to normal.
