What is required in order for police interrogation to be valid?
A
- Content - must give suspect notice of right to counsel, statement used in court, right to silence
- Right to Counsel - if D makes specific unambiguous statement, all interrogation must stop
- Right to Silence - interrogator must honor

Can invoke at any proceedings where it may incriminate itself

- Formal arrest / restraint of freedom
- Whether reasonable person believes it can leave
- Police station questioning not automatically custodial

A
- Questioning reasonably likely elicit incriminating response
- Voluntary statements not protected
- Confessions involuntary only if coerced under totality of circumstances
