Fields Flashcards
Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation
Every particle in the universe attracts every other particle with a force that is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centres.
Gravitational field strength
The force acting per unit mass
Weight
The gravitational force the earth exerts on an object on or near its surface
Mass
The amount of matter which an object consists of
Coulomb’s Law
Two point charges in free space or air exert forces on each other. The force is directly proportional to the product of the charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the charges
Electrical Field
A region of space in which an electrical charge experiences a force. The direction of the electrical field at a point is the direction that a positive test charge would move when places at that point
Electric field strength
The force per unit positive charge
