Antagonist
A character who opposes the main character
Climax
The highest point of action in the story
Conflict
A struggle between two or more forces
External conflict
A struggle between a character an outside force (man versus man)
Internal conflict
A struggle within a character
Direct presentation
When the writer tells the reader’s with a character is like rather than letting them form their own opinions
Dynamic character
A character that changes throughout the course of the story
Falling action
The events that happen after the climax
First person POV
A story told by a character in the story using “I”
Flashback
An event that happened before the time in which the stories main storyline takes place
Flat character
A character that is not well developed
Character foil
A character who serves as a contrast to another perhaps more primary character
Foreshadowing
A hint of what is to come
Limited omniscient POV
A story is narrated using third person (he she and they) But is limited to the perspective of one character
Narrator
The person telling the story
Objective POV
The narrator assume the position of an observer detached from the narrative EX. A camera simply filming what is happening
Omniscient POV
A third person narrative or the narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of all characters
Plot
The main storyline
Point of view (POV)
The perspective the story is being told from
Protagonist
The main character
Rising action
The events leading to the main event
Round character
A well developed character
Setting
Where the story takes place
Static character
A character that does not change throughout the course of the story
