Ficks Law Flashcards
1
Q
To find m or H
A
- To find H, use the equation cg=Hcl, where cg is concentration in gas and cl is concentration in liquid.
- Write out cg and cl in a form that they include y and x
2
Q
calculate t
A
- Derive an accumulation term
- Write a mass balance => accumulation= in-out
- If flux is your in/out term, ,make sure your accumulation is written in terms of per unit area
- Rearrange expression for integration and integrate to derive an expression for t
3
Q
Calculate L/G min
A
- Write a mass balance for find L/Gmin (you can replace yt-yb with yt* as gas leaves saturated with the respective liquid.)
- Write yt* with equilibrium expression (in this case yt*=mx)
- Calculate your m value by rewriting Henry’s Law expression given in terms of y*=mx)
4
Q
To calculate height of column
A
1.Derive the adsorption/desorption expression (consider where the contaminant is being removed from) and rearrange to be equal to Z.
2. Calculate your L and G mole flow rates (make sure units are the same)
3.Calculate any missing variables using mole balance or equilibrium expressions (Henry’s Law)
4. Calculate delta x or ylm values
5. Plug values back into expression for Z
