Most common presenting complaint of a patient with fibromyalgia
“Pain all over”
above and below the waist on both sides of the body, involving the axial skeleton
Common associated neuropsychiatric symptoms in fibromyalgia
Fatigue, unrefreshing sleep, cognitive dysfunction, anxiety, depression
Pain should have been present most of the day on most days for at least this duration for a diagnosis of fibromyalgia
3 months
Appropriate pressure applied during tender point examination for fibromyalgia
4 kg/m2 or the pressure leading to blanching of the tip of the thumbnail
Drugs that may cause symptoms similar to fibromyalgia
Statins
Aromatase inhibitors
This class of drugs should be avoided in patients with fibromyalgia as they have no demonstrated efficacy and may induce hyperalgesia
Opioids
First choice agents for fibromyalgia associated with fatigue, anxiety, or depression
Duloxetine or milnacipran
