fibrocollagenous tissue Flashcards
loose connective tissue
fibrocollagenous tissue made up of loosely arranged protein fibres including collagen (type 1) and elastin and ECM components including proteoglycans
where is loose connective tissue usually found?
around epithelia and organs
fibroblasts
cells that synthesise fibrous proteins including collagens, elastin and ECM components (like proteoglycans)
where is type 1 collagen found?
loosely, surrounding epithelia and densely in tendons and ligaments
where is type 3 collagen found?
in reticular fibrocollagenous tissue including the liver and lymph nodes
where is type two collagen found?
in cartilage (mainly in hyaline)
what are chondrocytes?
chondrocytes form from the chondroblasts which secrete the ECM of cartilage. They are embedded in the ECM of cartilage.
mast cells
synthesise histamine and other mediators of inflammation
stem cells
the stem cells of fibrocollagenous tissue maintains the fibroblast, blood cell and adipocyte cell population
adipose tissue
composed of brown and white fat
white fat
fat globules deposited in the cytoplasm of white fat cells (adipocytes) join together to form a late fat globule which occupy most of the cytoplasmic space of the cells
leptin
a protein produced by adipocytes that sends a signal to stop eating
brown fat
brown fat cells contain fat globules and are mitochondria rich. they make heat by uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation in mitochondria. abundant in babies and children - counters hypothermia. mainly located in the upper trunk region.
