Explain what Progressive Leadership is.
Dynamic social and political milieu wherein it exists, a context of constant and continuous change that demands leadership that is responsive, adaptable, and accountable.
dynamic, umaayon tayo sa ating konteksto. the way of leading is not static and confined to whatever we are used to doing and practicing. as members of the org, the way we lead transcends time and context, and we are most definitely open to develop, progress, and grow in terms of how we lead.
Explain what Diversity in Activism is.
It advocates for activism that reflects the diversity of its membership, within the College and University, and within the greater society, in order to respond to their needs and interests. The organization believes in an activism of purpose and direction.
many believe that activism is monolithic but we stand by the principle that activism comes in many forms (e.g. economic activism, artistic activism)
Explain what Academic Excellence is.
The advancement of the discipline of Political Science is of prime consideration for those who have chosen it as their field of study.
contributing to the field of political science; this recognizes the inter-discplinary nature of our discipline; because politics is not confined in a certain sphere, it is really found in every aspect of our lives.
also a reminder from the org to not abandon your studies and still focus on why you’re here in the first place!!
Explain what Critical thinking is.
The complexities of human society and social relationships require critical thinking for careful analysis and possible solutions necessary for a deeper understanding of and a greater appreciation of the broader social context.
intentional critical thinking will guide us in coming up with possible solutions. broader social context alludes to the org’s outward orientation (our reach does not stop in the org, the college, or the university); things shouldn’t be taken at face value, we should always be critical of why people act this way, why these decisions are made, and et cetera
Political Awareness
Understanding current social and political developments is a prerequisite for action. Constant awareness of changes in society is fundamental to the full realization of the individual as a social being.
this emphasizes that we first become social beings, social actors in order to be politically aware. kanino ba tayo natututo about politics? edi through the people we interact with; they are the primary source of the way we behave politically.
Political Involvement
The organization believes in decisive political action as a valid theoretical, empirical, and methodological means to fulfill its greater end of committed leadership and service within the context of the College and University, and society.
theoretical highlights the way we analyze the situation, empirical emphasizes how we receive and absorb the knowledge and information, methodological highlights the actions we take on because of what we have analyzed and what we have come to know.
