What is the keep?
A look out Built on the Motte.
What is the Motte? And How is it made?
An earthwork made by digging a ditch and throwing dirt up into the ditch.
Whats a moat?
The name of the ditch surrounding the castle sometimes filled with water.
Whats a Bailey?
An enclosed area on top of s smaller earthwork than the motte where the soldiers lived and slept.
What did a wooden bridge do?
It is connected the Keep to the Bailey defenders smashed it if they needed to retreat to the Keep.
What does a peasant have to give in the feudal system?
A peasant had to be loyal to knights, fight for them in times of ward and carry out many duties. They also had to pay taxes to the King.
What does a Knight have to give in the Feudal system?
a knight had to fight for his lord supply his lord with 20 foot soldiers and had to supply food and money to the Baron
What does a Noble have to give in the Feudal System?
He had to Appear at court, pay taxes, supply 20-30 knights and about 400 foot soldiers.
What does the king have to give in the feudal system?
The king gave land to Barons/ Nobles/Lords
What does a peasant receive?
A peasant received protection and land from the knights in return.
What does a Knight receive?
Knights usually got to control a town/village in his turn.
What does a noble receive?
A Noble/Baron/Lord received land from the King
What does the king receive?
The King got everyone to swear an Oath of Fealty if they rebelled against the Oath he would take their land back.
What was Harrying of the North?
Harrying of the North was when William burnt Villages down, killed their livestock and burnt their crops.
How much land did the king own?
one quarter
