The king
Owned all the land. He kept 25% and gave 75% to his vassals. He directed wars and administered the country. He went to balls and banquets
Nobles, lords, and bishops
They got 75% of the land the king owned. They lived in large manors or castles on their fief. They ruled over business matters. Lords collected taxes and paid a tax to the king. Bishops collected taxes and did not pay a tax to the king.
Knights
They protected their lords and would fight for the king. They provided security within the fief and were given food from the peasants. Training started at 7. They became a squire and were given a sacred sword at 14. If they proved their bravery, they would become a knight at 21.
Peasants and serfs
They produced food, supplies, and services. They paid lots of tax and paid rent to their lords. They lived hard lives and worked long hours on fields. Peasants had few political rights and some owned land. Serfs had no rights and no land.
