Shogun
The Japanese emperor’s chief military adviser and hereditary commander-in-chief, with the duty to protect Japan from foreign invasion
Daimyo
Great feudal lords of Japan during the Classical and shogunate periods
Vassal
A person who holds land for a lord, and in return pledges loyalty and service to him
Period
A length or portion of time.
Tokugawa Shogunate
the last feudal Japanese military government, which existed between 1603 and 1867. The head of government was the shogun, and each was a member of the Tokugawa clan.
Ashikaga Shogunate
A feudal samurai government ruled by the shoguns of the Ashikaga family.
Kamakura Shogunate
The Kamakura shogunate was a Japanese feudal military government of imperial-aristocratic rule that ruled from 1185 to 1333.
Heian
The last division of classical Japanese history, running from 794 to 1185.

A large group of closely related people
