- Belief in kami: sacred or divine beings (exist as spiritual beings and in nature)
- Shinto followers are to live in harmony
- Have a kamidana within the home and workplace: these would be purified daily and daily offerings are placed on them for the Kami
- Any place where a kami is manifested is a sacred place: natural objects and the precincts and altars of Shinto shrines
- One’s purpose is to maintain the pure and natural state of existence
