Fetal Monitor Strip Rules Flashcards
How to determine baseline
Look at at least a 2 min strip
the average heart rate
exclude accels/decelerations
Normal baseline heart rate
110-160
Acceleration
15 bmp inc for at lest 15 sec but not longer than 2 min
Early decceleration
Mirrors the contraction
Late deceleration
Starts after the contraction peak
Variable deceleration
Does not correspond to a contraction
15 bpm and at least 15 sec but less than 2 min
Absent variability
undetectable
Mild variability
<5 bpm
Moderate variability
6-25 bpm
Marked variability
> 25 bpm
How to measure variability
look at amplitude
change from baseline to highest high or lowest low (excluding accelerations and deceleration)
Prolonged deceleration
drop of at least 15 bmp lasting 2-10 min
Contractions appropriate time gap
5 or less in a 10 min period
averaged over 30 min
