Blood is taken from blood vessels of the umbilical cord or fetal blood vessel.

A
Risk of fetal loss is higher ~2% compared to other techniques & requires technical skill (up to 10% for Abscan & twins).

A
When ambiguous or inconclusive results are found with other methods (mosaic cases where a definitive result is required quickly).
