There is no exact statistic due to the difficulty of diagnosing a person with FASD
based on a variety of symptoms and spectrum of severity.
etiology?
Mother consumes alcohol during pregnancy
key characteristics
Smaller eye sockets, thin upper lip, smooth philtrum, thinning in the bridge of nose,
Small head size (compared to typical newborns)
* Lower than average birth weight & height (continued through childhood)
* Vision and hearing problems, delayed speech and language
* Higher than average, ADHD - poor concentration/attention/memory, hyperactivity,
issues learning. Risk substance abuse, trouble with law & mental health issues later life
* Sensitivity to touch and over-stimulation. Find difficult to access financial benefits.
* Often struggle socially; interfere with academics early in life & employment in later life
are there any treatments?
it is not treatable the symptoms can not be reversed.
