Q

how are fertilisers made in a lab potassium sulfate (4)

A
  • put dilute potassium hydroxide solution into a conical flask with phenolphthalein which acts as an indicator
  • add dilute sulfuric acid from a beretta or dropping pipettes
  • add activated charcoal which attracts the phenolphthalein which can then be filtered out with the activated charcoal with the phenolphthalein attached to it
  • warm the filtrate to evaporate the water leaving potassium sulfate behind
