Q
What are the differences between spermatogenesis and oogenesis?
A
- Spermatogenesis begins at puberty, lasting after this nearly the entire life. Oogenesis begins in the womb, where a non-renewable number of eggs are made, continuing until the egg is released from the ovaries.
- Many more sperm are made than ovum (quantity difference).
- Per meiotic cycle, four sperm cells are made, whereas only one functioning ovum is made - the other three are non-functioning polar bodies.
