- Jim Crow Era
a time in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (1877-1950s) when laws introduced in the Southern United States enforced racial segregation. “Seperate but equal” was a common slogan during this time… they were far from equal.
- Redlining
a discriminatory practice that consists of the systematic denial of services such as mortgages, insurance loans, and other financial services to residents of certain areas, based on their race or ethnicity.
- Subpar loans
money given out with interest rates (payback rates) that are higher than usual. These were given to people who are less likely to be able to pay back the money the borrowed.
- Internalized Racism
the process of creating a belief inside that the racist stereotypes, values, images and ideologies perpetuated by society about oneʼs racial group are true
- Generational Trauma
Damage that extends from one generation to the next. It begins when a group experiences a traumatic event that causes distress. In response, people belonging to that group develop physical or psychological symptoms that may be passed down.
