What are base-poor fens?

A

Associated with acidic water (pH5 or less) which have been in contact with sandstone or granite, with bog-type vegetation e.g. cotton grass, heather and Sphagnum mosses

A

Associated with water (pH 5 or more) which has been in contact with limestone, dominating vegetation with sedges, reeds and brown mosses
