Femoral Neck Classification Flashcards
Tree locations of femoral neck fractures
Sub capital (inferior to articular surface)
Transcervical
Basicervical (base of the neck, extra capsular)
Normal neck shaft angle
130 +/- 7 degress
Normal Femoral anteversion
10 +/- 7 degrees
What is the cal car femorale
Vertically oriented plate from the posteromedial portion of the femoral shaft radiating superiorly toward the greater trochanter
Where does the femoral capsule attach
Anteriorly to the intertrochanteric line and posteriorly 1-1.5 cm proximal to intertrochanteric line
Three ligaments that attach to femoral neck
- Iliofemoral (Y ligament of bigalow, anterior)
- Pubofemoral - anterior
- Ischiofemoral - posterior
Pauwel classification
Based on angle of fracture from horizontal plane
Type 1: 70 degrees
Garden classification
Based on degree of vagus displacement
Type 1: Incomplete/valgus impacted
Type II: Complete and non-displaced on AP and lateral views
Type 3: Complete with partial displacement
Type 4: Completely displaced
