what does the femoral triangle consist of?
A
- superior - inguinal ligament
- medial - medical border of the adductor longus muscle
- laterally - medical border of sartorius muscle

describe the passage of the femoral hernia
A
- protrusion of a peritoneal sac through the femoral canal which is a weak point in the abdomen
- posterior and inferior to the inguinal ligament

- medial - lacunar ligament
- laterally - femoral vein

Clinical features of femoral hernia
A
- femoral canal is narrow thus high risk of
- irreducible
- strangulation - more commen in elderly women

What is richter’s hernia?
A
anti mesenteric wall of the intestine protrudes through a defect in the abdominal wall
- only one intestinal wall protrudes through the defect

Mx of femoral hernia
A
- repaired by excision of sac and closure of the femoral canal

Q
what are the clinical features of richter’s hernia?
A
- only part of the intestinal wall herniates
- lumen of the bowel is not obstructed - symptoms of intestinal obstruction do not occur
- necrosis still occurs and perforation of the bowel wall results in peritonitis
