what do liberal feminists argue?
want to gain rights for men and woman in society in many areas eg : work, they argue gender differences are due to gender role socialisation and unfair laws

the family socialises you into gender roles through :
1) canalisation - different toys eg : boys - trucks girls- dolls
2) activities - encouraging different activities
3) verbal appellation’s - different words/phrases
4) manipulation - manipulating different things and mindsets

changing priorities, studied a group of women in 1970, their priorities were marriage, children but when studied again in 1990 their priorities changed to education and work
what do marxists feminists argue?
believe social class affects the life chances of women, marxism and feminism combined, family is patriarchal and women’s position in the family ends up being exploited by capitalism, women are encouraged to accept dominant ideology
what does feeley argue? (marxist)
women reproduce the next gen of workers and socialise/brainwash them into norms and values to benefit capitalism, boys - breadwinners, girls - housewife, they will emerge from family life preconditioned to accept their place in the capitalist hierarchy

women’s domestic work at home is unpaid benefitting capitalism as only one wage is being paid, a wife keeps her husband in good running order by feeding and caring for him which is essential for smooth running of capitalism

women soothe the stresses and frustrations of proletariat men after a hard day at work being exploited, this is essential to capitalism as women act like a sponge meaning bosses can rest more securly and the proletariat men will be in running order for work

patriarchy is the main source of oppression for women, society is run by men and in the interests of men, men are advantaged in every area in society
what does millett argue? (radical)
there is a biological element to womens oppression as women carry, give birth and feed a child, this puts them in a subordinate position in society due to men not having to do this eg : this is big advantage to men in the workplace as men dont have to take maternity leave making employers favour men
what does johnson argue? (radical)
patriarchal terrorism, men are prepared and will use violence against women to control them and maintain domination eg : physical violence, finances
what does rich argue? (radical)
men use patriarchal ideology to enforce compulsory heterosexuality as a way to maintain control eg : the nuclear family
