Not to fix, ‘museumise’ or idealise any cultural identity, paticularly your own
Why is translocational positionality important?
Forces to consider that there are many different boundries of belonging - an individual’s position in one group may be very different to their position in another

1) Claims of belonging -> voluntary
2) Attribuations -> arbitary
Though important to recognise otherness, what is the danger of cultural relativism
- Could justify continuing oppression of women in the ‘name of culture and tradtion’
- Difference can be framed as an ideological weapon

1) Shifting and contextual nature of the boundries themselves
2) Processes that give rise to manifestations of social catagories

Constantly shifting boundaries/understandings means what about social groups?
Gender, class, ethnicity and race are not permenant fixed groups = SHIFT
How should mulitcultualism and feminsm be viewed?
In context of racism and other exclusion of minorites as well as the positions of women in them =intersectionality
Where else has exploitation of women come from if not the patriachy?
Other women.
- Experience of women working as maids in richer countries
- Wealthier women do exploit poorer women

What is OKIN’s argument for multiculturalism being bad for women?
Traditional cultures often subjugate women so universal individual human rights should be prioritised over them

1) All cultures subordinate women, the ones ONKIN refers to only happen to be more obvious about it
2) Cultural imperalism is bad. She also failed to mention a single black or third world feminist work (there’s loads) = cultural imperalism by american feminism?
3) Much Western feminism often ignores that experience of and viewing of a cultural practice are very different
