Q

Radical/Marxist Feminists: Gender Paradox

A
  • Women are the main consumers of religion(more involved), but they are marginalised by it (treated less favourably compared to men)
  • Example: Hinduism - women cannot go near shrines when they are menstruating
  • Daly (radical feminist) argues that the story of Adam and Eve reinforce the social inferiority of women - Adam created in God’s own likeness whilst Eve was created from the rib of Adam
  • Roman Catholic Church - women praised for their actions in the pandemic by the Pope, but they have no actual power or authority (no female leadership positions)
  • Women seen as secondary to men, implies they should only listen to men and not take on leadership positions

AO3 - Sikhism emphasises equality between men and women, women can participate in all religious and social activities in the Gurdwara and both men and women can worship together
