Feminism Flashcards
Feminist view of the family
Negative view, the family is patriarchal and teaches children malestream norms and values
Liberal feminist view of the family
Gender role socialisation is the cause of female oppression: boys and girls are socialised into norms and values that lead to patriarchy and inequality
Marxist feminists view of the family
Capitalist cereal packet ideology pressures women to adopt a childcare role rather than an employee role. Women are a reserve army of labour, performing low paid part time jobs so they can be moved in and out of the labour market
Radical feminist view of the family
Men and women are socialised into ideas that confirm male superiority. The idea that men are biologically/psychically stronger is a false patriarchal ideology created to exploit and oppress women
Difference feminist view of the family
Other feminists assume that all women are white and live in nuclear families, women of all classes, ethnicities, ability and sexuality all have different experiences of living in a family
