Ovaries
Female sex organ, eggs mature and are released from here
Fallopian Tubes
The egg is released from the ovary and is drawn into this tube. If sperm are present, it is here that they may combine (fertilization).
Fimbria
Finger like projections of the fallopian tube that draw the egg into the tube
Uterus
A muscular, strong, elastic organ where the baby develops; rich blood lining develops here every cycle
Cervix
The opening to the uterus
Vagina
The flexible tube where the baby is delivered through; the penis is placed here during sexual intercourse; also called the “birth canal”
Clitoris
A small cluster of tissue that is sensitive when touched
Hymen
The thin tissue that partially covers the opening of the vagina
Labia
The two folds of tissue that cover and protect the openings of the urethra and vagina
Vulva
The most outer part of the labia
Breasts
During and after pregnancy, the breasts get ready to deliver milk; also called “mammary glands”
Menstrual Cycle
The cycle that involves the uterus filling with blood and getting ready for a possible pregnancy. If a pregnancy occurs, the lining will remain and get thicker. If not, the body gets rid of the blood (menstruation)
Menstruation
The releasing of the blood lining from the uterus
Ovulation
The releasing of an egg from the ovary, triggered by hormones
Menopause
When the whole cycle ends, no period, no ovulation
