Projects in sustains the life of the embryo and fetus during pregnancy
Has active role in labour and delivery
Vulva
Includes labia, majora, and minora, moms pubis clitoris and vestibule
Perineum
Area between vagina and anus
Menstrual phase
First five days of the cycle
Low oestrogen and progesterone
Endometrium breaks down and there is a release of 30 to 65 mls of blood and tissue
Proliferation phase
Day 6 to 13
Endometrium repairs itself and thickens, preparing for fertilized ovum
New follicle, secretes oestrogen
Ovulation day, 14
Sercretory phase
Day 15-28
Corpus, luteum, secretes, progesterone
Final prep of the endometrium to receive fertilized egg
If no implantation occurs, cycle starts again usually after day 28
Umbilical cord
Contains embryo and fetus to placenta
contains two arteries that carry blood to fetus to Pacenta
Contains 1 artery that carries blood from the placenta to the fetus
carries nutrients and oxygen to the fetus
