What is the function of the ovaries?
They are the sacs that hold all of the eggs that will be produced. They are also the site of oogenesis.
What is the oviduct? (Also known as the Fallopian tubes)
It is the site where a ovum can be carried from the ovaries to the uterus. Its also where the ovum is fertilized if sperm is present.
What is the uterus?
The uterus is a muscular organ that can expand many times its size and holds and nourishes the maturing fetus.
What is the endometrium?
The endometrium is the lining of the uterus and is richly supplied with blood vessels to give nutrients to the developing fetus.
What is an Ovum?
It is an unfertilized egg that is found in the oviduct. At this stage, it is still haploid.
What is a zygote?
It is the fertilized ovum that is found in the oviduct and uterus. At this point, the egg is now diploid.
What is a embreyo?
It is the more developed zygote, around 5-6 days old.
