Feedback systems basics Flashcards
Define an Open system
When energy can escape and enter/ inputs and outputs. Matter can enter and leave the system.
For example, a drainage basin.
Define a Closed system
Energy can enter and leave the system. However, Matter can not (Enter or exit the system).
Define Positive Feedback cycle
There is a change to the system, the changes in the system amplify initial change
Define Negative Feedback cycle
Change in the system, resulting effects of the change nullify/dampen the initial change. It brings the system back to dynamic equilibrium.
Since you probably don’t currently know an example, here’s one:
More co2 in atmosphere –> Global temp rise –> Plant growth increase –> Photosynthesis increased, therefore more co2 removed from atmosphere and sequestered.
Name the four Stores
-Biosphere
-Cryosphere
-Lithosphere
-Hydrosphere
Define:
Inputs
Outputs
Stores
Flows
Inputs are something that enters the system
Outputs are something that exits the system
Stores are where something is held.
Flows are movements between stores.
