Delegated powers

System of government in which a written constitution divides the powers of government on a territorial basis

Inherent powers
Powers that belong to the national government because it’s the national government of a sovereign state
Denied powers
Powers the federal government can’t do
Reserved powers
Powers that belong to the state
Exclusive powers
Powers that can be exercised by the national government
Concurrent powers
Powers that are shared by the national government and the state
Federal governments obligations to the states
1) must guarantee a republican form of government
2) they must protect us from foreign and domestic violence
3) must protect our territorial integrity (our borders)
Grants-in-aid
Federal money given to the states
They have a lot of conditions and restrictions
Block grants
Money from federal government to states that doesn’t have many restrictions
Revenue sharing
Congress gives a percent of its tax revenues to the states
State aid to the federal government
Elections
State courts conducting naturalization procedures
State law agencies apprehending those suspected of breaking federal laws
