Act of Admission
Becomes a new state
Block Grant
Broad amount of cash with no reasonings or use. Gives power to the state.
Categorical Grant
They must match the amount of money they applied for from the federal government.
Concurrent Powers
Both federal and state have these powers (taxes, punishments, elections)
Enabling Act
Process by which a territory becomes a state
Expressed Powers
Powers specifically listed in the constitution. The ability to declare war, raise taxes, etc
Extradition
Commit a crime in one state or country and must go back for trial.
Federalism
A system of government in which the National, State, Local governments operate over the same people at the same time.
Full Faith and Credit
You must respect the laws/policies of each state (marriage, drinking, laws, fireworks)
Gibbons v Ogden
Does the federal government have the right to regulate monopolies? Yes the federal government has the right to regulate interstate commerce.
Implied Powers
Powers that are bases on expressed powers
Inherent Powers
Powers that the federal government has developed over time. EX:Purchasing land (Louisiana Purchase) and regulating land.
Interstate Compact
2 states can enter into an agreement only if approved by congress.
Layer Cake Federalism
Each level of government has clearly defined roles
Marble Cake Federalism
Intermixing of local,state, and national governments to accomplish goals.
