Delegated powers
Congressional powers written in the Constitution.
Implied powers
Congressional powers that may be reasonably implied by the Constitution, through the Elastic Clause.
Inherent Powers
Congressional powers that do not rely on specific clauses, but grow out of the very existence of the national government.
Reserved powers
Powers neither delegated to Congress nor denied to the states.
Concurrent powers
Powers held by both the federal and state governments.
Prohibited powers
Powers denied to the federal, state government, or both.
dual federalism
Interprets the Constitution as giving limited powers to the national government and leaving most power in the hands of the state.
cooperative federalism
Says federalism is a system that helps to provide goods and services to citizens, requiring cooperation between that federal and state governments.
fiscal federalism
The system in which the federal government distributes tax dollars to the states, with rules and regulations attached.
