Saturday 18th February
The Pulitov Factory Strike begins
Pulitov workers go on strike due to :
1)extremely harsh working conditions
2)Low wages
3)Frustration of fellow men, family and friends dying due to war effort
Sunday 19th February 1917
.Announcement of food rationing causes further anger and desperation amongst people in Petrograd/St Petersburg.
.Slowly building up tension within Petrograd and small areas of protest starting
Thursday 23 February 1917
International Women’s Day Protest
.Women Begin to protest and our joined by men and workers across Petrograd.
.Desperation is evident as “Bread for our children” banners are displayed.
.Build up of protests from workers and men is purely organic and spontaneous, mostly inspired by frustration of the food shortage and the Women’s day protests.
.90,000 workers on strike by the end of the day.
February 24 Friday 1917
Strike continuous, the movement grows:
.200,000 workers getting involved
.Atmosphere of unease building up
.Protesters clash with police and unrest intensifies.
.Revolutionary slogans chanted.
Saturday 25th February 1917
Petrograd stops at a standstill
.240,000 workers on a standstill
.Any industry is now dormant.
.Strike slowly building up.
.Nicholas II is informed of the unrest but chooses to ignore it and relies on Army o suppress the disturbances and protests.
Sunday 26 February 1917
Tsar dissolves the Duma
.Tsar tries to regain control over and reinstate his Autocracy
.His attempt his rejected as the Dum defies the Tsar’s orders and continuous to meet unofficially.
.Military get involved and over 50 civilian lives are lost.
.Mild signs of mutiny start to appear a solider refuse direct orders to fire on protesters and join them instead.
Monday 27 February 1917
Mass mutinies in the army.
.Pavlovsky Regiment mutiny and join revolutionaries.
.Other solders refuse to suppress protests and demonstrations further forebode the end of an autocracy.
.Provisional Committee of the Duma is formed by Mikhail Rodzianko.
.Petrograd soviet is formed to combat this.
Tuesday 28th February 1917
Revolution Expands, Tsar’s regime crumbles
.Petrograd is fully in the hands of of the Petrograd Soviet which is run by soilders and workers.
.Provisional Committee establishes itself as new government as the new government while negotiations continued between the Duma and The Soviet.
.Hints of Petrograd soviet leaning more extreme and becoming Bolshevik in the near future.
Wednesday 1 March 1917
Petrograd soviet issues order No.1
.Order No . 1 was a significant declaration by the Petrograd soviet which gave soldiers the right to elect their on committees and take control of their own weapons.
.The Order demanded that soilderss only obey the orders of the soviet and not the provisional government.
.This severely undermined the authority of the Provisional Goverment, leading to a dual power situation in Petrograd, with the Soviet controlling much of the military and the streets.
.Further exposes the Provisional Goverment trying to establish control.
Thursday 2 March 1917
Tsar Nicholas II abdicates
.Under mounting pressure , Nicholas II finally abdicates in favour of his brother. Grand Duke Michael.
.Grand Duke Michael declines to accept the throne unless a mandate from the people is given to him.
.Ending 300 years of Romanov Rule.
.Provisional Government is formally established - democratic elections declared
