Pathophysiology of Febrile Seizure
A
Associated with a fever that is not the result of an intracranial infection or metabolic imbalance and are usually related to a viral illness

Risk Factors
A
- Young age at first febrile seizure
- Family History of febrile seizures
- High Fever
- Common in boys

Signs and Symptoms
A
- Rapid rise in core temperature; 102.2 °F or higher (commonly with viral)
- Lasting less than 15 mins (usually a few seconds to 10 mins)
- Occurs once in a 24-hour period and is accompanied by a fever without any CNS infection present.
- Benign and no longer term effect

- Status Epilepticus
- Motor Coordination Deficits
- Intellectual Disability
- Behavioral Problems

Nursing Management
A
- Reassure parents of the benign nature of febrile seizures
- Counsel parents on controlling fever
- Discuss how to keep a child safe
- Instruct when to call the physician and take their child into the ER
