》Features of Types of Experiments Flashcards
1
Q
Name 3 types of experiments.
A
Laboratory Experiments.
Field Experiments
Natural & Quasi Experiments.
2
Q
Features of a Laboratory Experiment. (5)
A
- Lab experiments are conducted in a tightly controlled, artificial environment.
- The experimenter deliberately manipulates the independent variable.
- The experimenter measures the dependent variable (this produces quantitative data)
- There is an attempt to control/minimise other (extraneous) variables which could affect the DV/results.
- The experimenter uses standardised procedures (including instructions)

Q
Features of Field experiments. (4)
A
- Field experiments are conducted in a natural, ‘real world’ environment.
- The experimenter deliberately manipulates the independent variable.
- The experimenter measures the dependent variable.
- There is minimal (if any) control of other (extraneous) variables which could affect the DV/results.
4
Q
Features of Natural & Quasi Experiments (6)
A
- Can be conducted in any setting.
- The IV is not manipulated but instead is ‘naturally occuring’.
- Quasi: The IV is a pre-existing characteristic (a difference between people that already exists)
- Natural: The IV is an event/experience.
- The experimenter measures the dependent variable.
- The experimenter has very little/no control over other (extraneous variables which could affect the DV/results.
